Walk to support local man

A walk will be held at Arthur J. Hendrickson Park on Sunday, May 17 to show support for village employee Joe Verrelli, who is battling stage 4 lung cancer.

The event will begin at the pool entrance at 10 a.m. A donation of $10 is asked to help defray the costs of Verrelli’s treatment. The Parks Department will provide water and Verrelli Strong wristbands. Anyone interested in attending is asked to call Firemen’s Field at (516) 825-4121.

Lorraine Werbeck and Frank Torres, Verrelli’s supervisors at the Parks Department, organized the event because so many of his coworkers and friends were asking how they could help.

Werbeck said she and Torres consider Verrelli to be an “ideal employee — conscientious and hardworking. His coworkers admire and respect him, and more telling of his character — they simply enjoy being with him. He’s just a terrific guy. We are here to support him in any way we can.”
