Residents of Wantagh and Seaford can say hello to a new kayak launch point on the south shore of Long Island.

Town of Hempstead Supervisor Don Clavin and Councilman Chris Carini unveiled a new kayak launch point at Seamans Neck Park in Seaford. The launch, which is part of the “South Shore Blueway Trail,” allows kayakers, paddleboarders, and other small boat users easy access to the south shore estuary area.

The South Shore Blueway Trail is a project that encourages use of kayaks and other small boats so that residents can enjoy Long Island nature without being too disruptive.

It is part of Clavin’s Parks Improvement Plan which aims to enhance local recreational spaces.

“This is an exciting moment for local kayakers, paddleboarders, and all aquatic enthusiasts here in the Town of Hempstead,” Clavin said. “My administration will continue seeking ways to better connect residents to our environment, and allow nature-lovers to further explore our wonderful coastal environs.”

Chris Carini, who represents Seaford on the Hempstead Town Council, was eager to partake in the unveiling.

“The unveiling of this kayak launch is a momentous occasion for not just the community surrounding Seaman’s Neck Park, but for residents from all corners of the township,” Carini said. “I am elated that this project has been completed, and that my Hempstead Town neighbors can access the sea from this easy, convenient location right at a Town Park.”

Clavin and Carini both hope this development encourages residents to enjoy Long Island’s beautiful nature, something that is often forgotten in favor of Long Island’s proximity to New York City. Seamans Neck Park is located on Seamans Neck Road in Seaford.
