The Mental Health Association of Nassau County hosted their second annual Overdose Prevention and Awareness walk – Gone But Not Forgotten last Saturday at Jones Beach. The three-mile walk aimed to bring awareness to the overdose crisis that has devastated families throughout the country. Passionate walkers showed their dedication to raising awareness while also building friendships with each other.

Jeff Mcqueen, executive director of the association, gave a speech to raise awareness of the overdose crisis and hand out awards. Steve Chassman, executive director of the Long Island Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, was awarded the Nassau association’s Impact Award for his efforts to raise awareness and combat the Opioid Epidemic. Janice Talento, chairman of the board for Drug Free Long Island, was presented the Ciappa Advocacy Award for her dedication in battling the opioid epidemic.

The day saw walkers enjoy light refreshments, vendor giveaways, and become engaged with their community to help put an end to the overdose crisis.
