Seaford 9/11 Memorial Committee's Patriot Awards dinner is coming up

Posted

Every year, the Seaford 9/11 Memorial Committee honors the five heroic Seaford High School alumni that died on Sept. 11, 2001. Those alumni were Timothy Haskell (class of 1985) and his brother, Thomas (1982), who both served in the New York City Fire Department. Robert Sliwak (1977) and Michael Wittenstein (1985) worked at Cantor Fitzgerald, and John William Perry (1982) was a New York City police officer.

The committee was formed both to mourn these heroes and inspire Seaford residents to pay it forward year-by-year — and it truly keeps the spirit of “Never Forget” alive in the community. Every year, it names five Seaford High seniors as Patriots, and names between two and three adult members of the Seaford community as Honorary Patriots.

This year’s Honorary Patriots are Joe Mottola, Elaine Tamsen, and Nick Bilotta. The five students will be named at the annual dinner on June 26 at 6 p.m. at the Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury. Admission is $100 per person. To find out more information or take out an ad in the committee journal, reach out to Lynda Schachner at lschachner@seaford911.org.
