Wantagh administrators take on new roles

Two administrators from the Wantagh School District will be moving into new roles in the central office for the 2022-2023 school year. Carol-Ann Winans has taken on the position of executive director for curriculum and instruction K-12 while Stephanie Scolieri is the new director of human resources.

Winans joined the district three years ago and was most recently the director of science, math, and technology education programs. She spearheaded Wantagh’s transition to new science standards using the “hands on, minds on” approach. She introduced a number of new courses at Wantagh including middle school science research, college-level anatomy and Project Lead the Way. She was the science chairwoman in Lynbrook prior to working in Wantagh.

Winans holds a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences and secondary science education from the University of Maryland at College Park, a master’s degree in science education from Queens College and administrative certification from the College of St. Rose.

“Wantagh has a very innovative and challenging educational program and I look forward to supporting the vision of the school district in this new role,” Ms. Winans said. “A high level of professionalism exists among the faculty and administration in Wantagh, and together we can enhance the love of learning among all students.”

Scolieri has served as principal of Wantagh Middle School for the past eight years, where responsibilities included creating the master schedule, conducting teacher observations and coordinating professional development opportunities for staff. She helped establish programs such as Beautiful Me and No Place for Hate, both designed to enhance school culture.

Before coming to Wantagh, she was the curriculum coordinator for business and technology in the Sewanhaka Central High School District. Dr. Scolieri holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration and management and a master’s degree in secondary education from Hofstra University, an educational leadership certificate from LIU Post and a doctorate in instructional leadership from St. John’s University.

Scolieri is a member of the New York State Association of School Personnel and has regularly attended their annual conference to stay up to date on current trends in human resources. In addition to her role in hiring, observing, evaluating, training and developing staff, she will serve as Wantagh’s Dignity for All Students Act coordinator.

“My goal is to provide support and leadership so that all students can achieve their maximum potential by hiring and supporting the best staff,” Scolieri said.
