The Bellmore Board of Education last week approved a budget of nearly $31 million for 2010-11. The spending plan, if approved by residents in May, would allow for a 2.97 percent increase over the current spending plan, with a tax levy increase of 3.96 percent. The administration has yet to release how the proposed budget would affect individual taxpayers' bills. more

She soon learned about the Association of Haitian Physicians Abroad, an organization that collected medical supplies to be sent down with doctors intent on helping the sick and injured. more
The Bellmore Little League season is in full swing, and more than 150 children marched on Saturday to celebrate. The season started in early April, but officials held off the parade in the hope of sunnier weather. The wait paid off, and players took to the street and marched from Bedford Avenue to the Bruce H. A chilly spring morning couldn't deter more than 50 teams from across Long Island from attending Mepham High School's Fourth Annual Paul Limmer Pirate Track and Field Invitational recently. The event, which was initially started to showcase Mepham's then new track, has become an annual friendly meet to raise money for Mepham's track and field team at the beginning of the season. more
