Baldwin High School@Shubert Class of 2024 graduates, Tristan Allen and Davianna Hill received scholarships totaling $18,000 each. In addition to receiving this scholarship, Hill was asked to deliver the Student Commencement Address at the graduation ceremony on June 26, where she shared her story.

While I don’t go to church too often anymore, I still have a special place in my heart for the magic, the importance and the splendor of religion, especially Christianity. The history of religion is one of the highest of highs and the lowest of lows, and led to some of the most phenomenal art, literature and philosophy that humanity has ever produced.

When I hear talk of student loan forgiveness, I immediately think of the wise advice that if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Why should the government forgive college loans? Loan forgiveness is only a temporary solution to the costs of higher education. If loans are funded by the government, they are not forgiven, they don’t go away — taxpayers assume the debt.
