Hangout One Happy Place hosted its fifth annual Autism Awareness Walk on April 27 at Baldwin Harbor Park, concluding a month of events recognizing Autism Awareness Month.
The event featured musical performances by individuals on the autism spectrum, dancing, arts and crafts, and a raffle drawing. Organizers said the event aims to both raise awareness about autism and highlight the talents and contributions of those in the community.
Angela Lucas, who founded the nonprofit in 2019, led the event. She was named the Baldwin Herald’s Person of the Year in 2020.
Hangout One Happy Place is based in Baldwin and provides a safe space for children, teens, and young adults with autism to socialize and participate in structured activities.
