A herd of 24 Nigerian dwarf goats trotted through the Town of Hempstead’s Norman J. Levy Park and Preserve in Merrick on Monday morning, weaving through joggers and parents with their children — all of whom stopped to pet the animals.

The Friends of the Levy Preserve Committee will host a one-hour tour of the Town of Hempstead’s Norman J. Levy Park and Preserve in Merrick on Thursday, June 26, at 6:30 p.m. Meet in the parking lot.
Mike McConnell, Hempstead’s deputy parks commissioner, will answer questions.

I ran for 45 minutes over the seashell-coated paths and up and down the steep hills of Norman J. Levy Park and Preserve in Merrick last Saturday, and I didn’t meet a soul, which was surprising and strange, even a little eerie.
