The Nassau County Arson Bomb Squad is investigating a house fire that broke out on Aug. 20 in Bellmore, leaving four residents displaced but causing no injuries, officials said.
A 911 call reporting a house fire at 2441 New Place was received at 7:42 p.m. The Bellmore Fire Department responded quickly under the command of Chief Conway, arriving to find smoke and flames in the basement. The residents had already evacuated safely.
Around 60 firefighters from the Bellmore, North Bellmore, Seaford, Wantagh, and Merrick fire departments worked together to bring the situation under control within 40 minutes. No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported.
The Nassau County Fire Marshal’s office and the Police Department’s Arson Bomb Squad were on the scene to investigate. Detectives said no criminality is suspected at this time, though the cause of the fire has not yet been determined. The Town of Hempstead Building Department was also called in to assess the serious damage to the structure.
The American Red Cross is assisting the four adult residents who were displaced. Officials said smoke alarms were installed as required and operated properly, alerting the occupants in time to escape safely.
The investigation into the fire remains ongoing.
