Firefighters and hazardous materials crews responded to a propane leak at a Bellmore filling station, leading to road closures and a large emergency response in the area.

Authorities said crews were called to the station after a propane leak was detected just before 6 p.m. Monday night. Firefighters and hazmat teams worked to contain the leak and monitor air conditions around the site while securing the area for nearby businesses and passing motorists.

Emergency personnel remained at the scene for several hours as crews worked to safely stop the leak and prevent further danger. No injuries were immediately reported.

Officials had not released details about what caused the leak as of press time, and it was unclear whether any evacuations took place during the response.

The incident prompted a significant turnout from local fire departments and specialized hazardous materials units as authorities worked to ensure the area was safe.

Police advised motorists that Bellmore Avenue was closed in both directions between Martin Avenue and Wilson Avenue while emergency crews remained on scene.
