In the heart of Bellmore’s downtown is an eclectic wellness shop that caters to all. Whether visitors are seeking spiritual guidance, mediumship sessions, Reiki and other wellness services, or simply browsing its array of merchandise, Charmed and Healing brings it all together under one roof.
The storefront in Bellmore was opened in December of 2020 by shop owner Lori McGuire, who resides in nearby East Meadow. Charmed first operated out of a smaller spot earlier that year, and despite the pandemic complicating her first year in business, she needed more space and relocated to its current location on Bedford Avenue.
McGuire is a psychic medium and certified to perform Reiki, an ancient Japanese practice that involves the transfer of energy from one person to another.
Walking around the shop — which sports a homey, warm feel — patrons can browse a variety of holistic health items and other gifts, including essential oils, lotions, crystals and jewelry. And aside from shopping, customers can book psychic readings and Reiki sessions.
“Those are our main things,” McGuire said of Charmed’s services. “And then we offer a lot of classes. We try to be more of a community place."
Psychic readings are priced at $30 for 10 minutes; $50 for 15 minutes; $75 for 30 minutes; and $125 for 60 minutes. Reiki sessions are priced at $75 for 30 minutes or $125 for 60 minutes.
Charmed and Healing posts a monthly calendar on its Facebook page, which details a list of programming, including crafting classes for things such as wreaths, candles and simmer pots. The schedule also boasts movie nights, packages for Reiki services and special psychic nights. A lot of the classes and programming are themed around the season or month.
McGuire also hosts twice-monthly moon circles, which she said are well-attended. The circles include meditation, intention-setting by candlelight, Reiki, sound bowls and individual card readings. And Shaun Tannenbaum, who works with McGuire, hosts angel classes, helping people connect with archangels.
Charmed’s purpose, above all, is to help people and offer the community an alternative, holistic approach to wellness and healing.
“It’s been different each year,” she said, reflecting on her business journey. “I think the thing that we’ve maintained are the psychic readings and the Reiki healings, and that’s what people come back for. And then once people come once or twice, they get to know everybody who works here and the other people who come in, and it’s really just kind of developed into a community, which I love.”
“It’s become a lighter energy-place,” Tannenbaum said. “Some people with darker energies just gravitate away, and it’s been really good lately.”
And of course, Charmed is a novelty shop — the type of place where people stop in for birthday, housewarming, anniversary or milestone gifts.
Mental clarity in a crazy world, McGuire said, is what she feels keeps her customers engaged. “I think it’s the uplifting energy,” she explained. “I think it’s the spark of guidance and joy, hope for the future. I think it’s that hopeful energy.”
