Carnival rides, pony rides, live music, and plenty of family fun took over downtown Merrick from Oct. 23-25 as the Merrick Chamber of Commerce hosted its annual Merrick Family Festival.
The three-day celebration brought residents from across Long Island together for a weekend of entertainment, shopping and activities for all ages while supporting local businesses and community organizations.
The festival kicked off Friday evening with carnival rides before expanding into a full weekend of festivities Saturday and Sunday. Activities stretched along Merrick Avenue, from Sunrise Highway and Broadcast Plaza to Loines Avenue, transforming the downtown area into a bustling community gathering place.
Vendors lined the streets, offering everything from sweet treats and handmade jewelry to children’s toys, crafts and other merchandise. Local businesses also participated, giving visitors an opportunity to explore products and services while connecting with merchants from the community.
Live entertainment was a highlight of the weekend, with performances by the musical theater group from The Dance Place, the Tommy Williams Trio and the band All In. Magician Mark Schussmann also entertained festivalgoers with his act, adding a touch of magic to the festivities.
Carnival attractions offered excitement for younger attendees, who enjoyed motorcycle-themed rides, pony rides and hands-on activities, including making colorful beaded bracelets.
Community organizations also joined the celebration. The North Merrick Public Library hosted a booth featuring books and information about its programs, while students from Chatterton School organized a sixth-grade bake sale.
Families and friends gathered throughout the festival grounds, enjoying the attractions and taking advantage of the opportunity to spend time together outdoors.
Beyond the rides, performances and shopping, the annual festival provided an opportunity for neighbors to reconnect and celebrate the businesses, schools and organizations that contribute to Merrick's community spirit.
