The Merrick Kiwanis Club teamed up with the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District for its annual food and toy drive. Non-perishable food items were collected over two weekends at Foodtown and Stop and Shop in Merrick.

Kiwanis International is a global organization dedicated to serving the needs of children and communities. A Kiwanis Club is a local chapter or unit of Kiwanis International, and its members are typically volunteers.

Program Chair Dave Denenberg coordinated with the Central District Alternative Program Director Eric Arlin to bring the food to the community cupboard at the Administrative Building. Toy Drive Chair Arlene Gregory coordinated with the Merrick and North Merrick schools to collect toys in late November and early December.

Kiwanians then worked with students from the Central District Alternative Program and the community cupboard and the Merrick and North Merrick school districts to assemble food and toy packages. The holiday packages included turkeys that the club was able to purchase with donations from the community and from the Kiwanis Club.

Kiwanians delivered these packages shortly before Christmas.
