Wellington C. Mepham High School celebrated its annual homecoming Oct. 3, bringing students, alumni and community members together for a day of school spirit, athletic achievements and Pirate traditions.

The festivities kicked off with the school’s annual Pirate Fest, where students showcased Mepham’s clubs and organizations. Families, alumni and residents gathered on campus to learn about student activities and connect with the school community.

The celebration continued on the football field, where the Mepham Pirates defeated Valley Stream Central High School, 50-15.

Throughout the game, the Mepham band, led by Anthony Brandofino, entertained spectators with musical performances. The school’s kickline team, coached by Kerry Dennis, and cheerleading squads, led by Ashley Yunker, kept the crowd energized with halftime routines.

Homecoming also included a celebration of Mepham’s athletic history with the induction of new members into the school’s Athletic Alumni Hall of Fame, organized by social studies teacher Stel Pefanis.

This year’s honorees included runner Mark Belger, baseball player Robert Tritsch, coach Ken Hunte, basketball player Jennifer Geiger and members of the 2021 and 2022 softball teams.

The festivities concluded with the homecoming dance, where Will Schaefer and Maddie Santos were crowned homecoming king and queen, respectively.
