Reinhard Early Childhood Center in Bellmore witness chick hatching

Kindergartners at Reinhard Early Childhood Center in the Bellmore School District recently got a front-row seat to one of nature’s most memorable moments — watching baby chicks hatch.

The young students observed the process from start to finish, as eggs were kept warm in incubators and carefully monitored each day. As the anticipated moment approached, excitement grew in the classroom when tiny cracks began to appear on the shells.

One by one, the chicks emerged, transforming the lesson into a vivid, real-life learning experience.

The activity was part of a hands-on approach to teaching life science concepts. Students explored the life cycle of animals, observed changes over time and practiced patience as they waited for the chicks to hatch.

Beyond the science lesson, the experience also helped students develop a sense of responsibility and care while learning about living things.

Teachers said the project not only engaged students academically, but also left them with lasting memories of their “egg-citing” classroom visitors.
