A Little League field at Greis Park is set to receive a $164,000 artificial-turf upgrade after the Lynbrook village board approved the project at its Aug. 24 meeting.
The village authorized Mayor Alan Beach to enter into an agreement with LandTek for the conversion of the park’s 60-foot Little League infield.
Under the project, crews will excavate the existing subgrade and dispose of excess soil before grading and compacting the area. A stone base and drainage system will then be installed in preparation for the new playing surface.
LandTek will install a complete artificial-turf infield with sand-and-rubber infill. The field will include foul lines and bases, home plate, a warning track, coach’s boxes and batter’s and umpire’s boxes. The project also calls for a perimeter sod band around the outfield arc and a portable mound.
The project marks another round of turf improvements at Greis Park involving LandTek. The company previously completed a $1.3 million turf project at the park in 2020, installing synthetic turf across roughly 122,000 square feet.
That project converted Fields C and D, two multi-use fields used for sports including football, lacrosse, soccer, softball and baseball, to turf. The infield of the baseball and softball diamond on Field A was also converted to turf, and a drainage system was installed beneath the new playing surfaces.
The earlier work was part of a broader effort by village officials to upgrade the seven-acre Greis Park, which houses athletic fields, the village pool, playgrounds, trails and other recreational facilities.
The latest $164,000 LandTek proposal is dated July 17 and was awarded through a cooperative purchasing contract. At the Aug. 24 meeting, Beach briefly highlighted the agreement before the board approved it along with several other village contracts.
