After serving four years on the Lynbrook Board of Education, incumbent trustee Tara Aragona is seeking another term, saying she hopes to continue advocating for students, families and taxpayers while helping the district navigate rising costs and evolving student needs. Current board member Patrick Palleschi is not running again.

A longtime Lynbrook resident and parent of 11th grade twins, Aragona said her nearly two decades in the community and years of volunteer work inspired her continued commitment to the district.

“I’m a longtime member of the Lynbrook community and a proud parent of 11th grade twins who have grown up in the district,” Aragona wrote in an email. “My family and I have lived here for 19 years, and over that time, I’ve become deeply connected to our schools.”

Aragona said her involvement in the district over the past 12 years has allowed her to build relationships with students, teachers and families while gaining a firsthand understanding of the district’s strengths and challenges. She said that experience motivated her to continue serving on the board.

“My motivation to run for the Board of Education comes from my experience and my strong belief in community service,” Aragona wrote. “I have truly enjoyed being a Board trustee these last 4 years and hope to continue to do so.”

Among the biggest issues facing the district, Aragona pointed to rising costs across Long Island school systems, including transportation, utilities and health insurance. She said balancing those increases while maintaining educational quality is one of the district’s most important responsibilities.

“As a mom, I know how important it is to be mindful of costs, but also not lose sight of what really matters — our kids and the quality of their education,” Aragona wrote. “I think Lynbrook has done a really great job staying fiscally responsible while still providing a strong school experience.”

If re-elected, Aragona said her priorities would include maintaining strong academic programs, supporting students socially and emotionally, and ensuring transparency with families and taxpayers.

“My top priority is to continue providing our students with a high-quality education while being mindful of our community’s hard earned tax dollars,” she wrote.

Aragona also emphasized accessibility and community engagement, noting her continued involvement in the High School PTA, the Lynbrook Council of PTAs and the Lynbrook Moms and Dads Athletic Club. She said she hopes residents see her as approachable and willing to listen to different perspectives before making decisions.

“Residents should vote for me because I am committed to being accessible, transparent, and focused on what is best for all students and taxpayers,” Aragona wrote.

The Lynbrook Board of Education election and budget vote will be held Tuesday, May 19.
