Criminal partners Marquis Jones, 24, of Hempstead, and Victor Caputo, 22, of Corona, thought they got away, scot-free, with a very big crime.

According to the Nassau County Police’s 5th Precinct, on March 25, Jones went to the Chase Bank, on Linden Boulevard in Elmont, and cashed three counterfeit checks for an undisclosed amount of cash. On April 22, Jones went to the same bank and presented a fraudulent withdrawal slip, receiving an undisclosed amount of cash.

On May 11, Jones gave Caputo 10 counterfeit checks to bring to the Chase Bank in Elmont. After Caputo went into the bank and presented the checks to a teller, the teller notified police, and both Caputo and Jones were arrested at the scene.

Caputo has been charged with 10 counts of Possession of a Forged Instrument in the second degree, and Jones has been charged with Grand Larceny in the third degree and 14 counts of Possession of a Forged Instrument in the second degree. Jones and Caputo were both arraigned on Thursday, May 12, at the First District Court in Hempstead.

According to police, Jones and Caputo are each facing two to seven years in prison, and neither individual had been arrested in Nassau County prior to these arrests.
