Two local men were arrested in Elmont on June 22, at 4 a.m., after assaulting a man at his home on 237th Street.

According to detectives, after Ilex Gelin 31, of Elmont, and Georges Sniff, 23, of Springfield Gardens, knocked on the door of the home and a man living in the home — who Gelin knew — opened the door, he was struck in the head with a brick, causing him to fall down a flight of stairs. Police said that after the resident was struck, $400 was taken from a cabinet in his home.

Shortly after Sniff and Gelin fled the scene, they were arrested by officers from Nassau County’s 5th Precinct; at 5:10 a.m., Sniff was arrested on the corner of 115th Road and 237th Street in Elmont, and charged with first-degree burglary, and around the same time, Gelin was arrested at his residence. During his arrest, Gelin fought with officers, and refused to be handcuffed.

Two officers were injured, due to the dispute, and transported to Mercy Hospital, where they were treated and released. The man injured by Gelin and Sniff was transported to Winthrop Hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Gelin was charged with Resisting Arrest, first-degree Burglary, and two counts of second-degree Assault. Gelin and Sniff were arraigned in Hempstead’s First District Court on June 23.
