Fall is just around the corner, and Plattduetsche Park is giving residents plenty of reasons to get outside and enjoy the season. From German food and live music to a festival celebrating one of fall’s favorite fruits, the park’s lineup has something for families, friends and anyone looking for a fun weekend activity. Here are three events to add to your fall calendar.
Spend the day enjoying German food and music at Ompahfest
Ompahfest returns Sept. 20 from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. for a day celebrating German-American heritage, culture and tradition. The festival will feature Bavarian-style “oompah” music, traditional German food, beer, games and activities throughout the day. Visitors can enjoy bratwurst, frankfurters, Bavarian pretzels with beer cheese, German potato salad, potato pancakes with applesauce and farmer’s sausage. Guests can also browse vendors selling imported German goods, jewelry and crafts. Raffles, games and other activities will add to the celebration, giving visitors plenty to enjoy throughout the day.
Grab some friends and enjoy an evening at Oktoberfest
Plattduetsche Park will keep the Oktoberfest celebrations going on Oct. 2, 3, 10 and 11. The evening events on Oct. 2, 3 and 10 run from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m., while the Oct. 11 celebration runs from 1 to 5 p.m. Guests can enjoy Oktoberfest specialties and beer while listening to live German music from Die Spitzbuam and the park’s own brass band, Foehrer Musik Freunde. Admission is $8. With live music, food and drinks, the celebrations offer an easy way to spend an evening or afternoon with friends and family.
Try something new at Plattduetsche Park’s Applefest
Apples will get their own moment in the spotlight during Applefest at Plattduetsche Park this fall. The new food festival will celebrate the fruit in plenty of different ways, so visitors shouldn’t expect to find only apple strudel. Along with apple-inspired dishes, the event will feature live bands, German food and beer. It’s a chance to enjoy classic fall flavors while spending time with friends and family. Whether you have a sweet tooth or simply want to try something new, Applefest offers a fun way to welcome the season at Plattduetsche Park.
