Nassau County arrested an 23-year-old Elmont man on July 10 for a burglary in Elmont on June 21, and another in Hicksville in 2010.

According to 5th Precinct detectives, on June 21, Kaisem Watkins, of Elmont, entered a home on Dorothy Street in Hicksville by breaking a bedroom window. When the homeowner came to the house, he discovered a bloody paper towel lying on the floor, noticed his credit card was missing and called the credit card company to report it.

The man was informed that his card had been used in a Target store in Hicksville. Detectives responded to the Target store, and viewed Watkins on a surveillance video — he had a towel wrapped around his wrist, and was purchasing bandages with the card.

On July 10, at 5:05 p.m., Target Loss Prevention notified police that the defendant entered the store. Second Precinct police officers responded and located the defendant in the Broadway Mall, where he was arrested.

Upon further investigation, Nassau County police were able to link Watkins to a crime he committed in Elmont in 2010, through fingerprinting. According to police, on May 1, 2010, Watkins entered a residence on Harrison Street in Elmont by breaking a rear window, ransacked the home and took assorted jewelry. The department's Crime Scene Unit responded, and was able to lift a latent impression off of the broken window — later identified as Watkins'.

Watkins was charged with two counts of second-degree burglary. He was arraigned on July 11, in Hempstead's First District Court.
