Nine new homeowners moved into the Foster Meadow Golden Age Residence — a 30-unit senior living complex located at 1888 Foster Meadow Drive in Elmont — in May.

The construction of the residence was recently completed by the Bedford Construction Group. It includes units that are nearly 1,000 square feet, with two bedrooms and 1.5 baths.

The development was created through a partnership between partnership between the Town of Hempstead, Bedford Construction Group and the Long Island Housing Partnership, in order to help fulfill the need for more affordable living opportunities for the town's growing senior population.

A press conference was recently held for the first residents of the senior housing development, and several local dignitaries attended, including Town of Hempstead Supervisor Kate Murray, Town Clerk Mark Bonilla, Receiver of Taxes Don Clavin, Nassau County Legislator John Ciotti, project developer James Villardi and Peter Elkowitz, of the Long Island Housing Partnership.

“We are thrilled to welcome deserving senior residents with the opportunity to make Foster Meadow their home and to truly enjoy their golden years in a very special and affordable place,” Murray said. "Seniors are a vital part of the fabric of our communities and we owe it to them to assist in creating affordable places in which to live. Projects like this and others throughout the town help strengthen neighborhoods and give back to those who have contributed so much.”

Senior citizens had to meet the affordable housing eligibility requirements, including being at least 62 years old, and having a combined family income of $65,150 or less.
