An Elmont woman and her daughter were injured on Dec. 12 at 9:09 p.m. when a driver, who was fleeing from police, crashed into their vehicle in Elmont, according to Nassau County 5th Precinct detectives.

The woman and young girl suffered facial injuries, and were taken to a local hospital for treatment, police said.

According to police, two officers from the Fifth Precinct observed a 36-year-old Elmont man acting suspicious next to a gas station on Hempstead Turnpike in Elmont on Monday, and when they attempted to investigate, the man got back into his vehicle and fled eastbound on Hempstead Turnpike. Following a brief police chase, the man lost control of his vehicle and struck bushes and a fence at the Belmont Funeral Home, at 1529 Hempstead Turnpike in Elmont.

Police said that the man then drove back onto Hempstead Turnpike, continuing eastbound, and made a right turn, then struck a street sign and continued southbound on Hill Avenue. The driver came to a stop after striking the vehicle of the women and her daughter, which was located on the corner of Hill and Rosser avenues, detectives said.

Other occupants of the man's vehicle fled the scene on foot, police said, adding that although the driver has been arrested, his identity has not been release due to an ongoing investigation.
