Franklin Square Public Library invites families to summer reading kickoff event

The Franklin Square Public Library will kick off its annual Summer Reading Program on Sunday, June 28, from 1 to 4 p.m., with an afternoon of games, entertainment, educational activities and family fun.

The event follows the success of last year's summer reading kickoff, which drew hundreds of residents to the library for a community celebration featuring live music, arts and crafts, carnival games, mini golf, 3D printing demonstrations, inflatable attractions and visits from local organizations and businesses.

Library Director Aviva Kane and Assistant Director James Pagano expanded the event in 2025 after a smaller pilot program the previous summer proved popular with residents. Community groups, vendors and library supporters helped transform the library into a festival-like atmosphere that welcomed visitors of all ages.

Among last year's participants were the Nassau Library System, the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter, Beyond Control Music, EZ Play Entertainment, Long Island Laser Tag and Slice of NY Squared Pizza. Guests met adoptable dogs, enjoyed live student musical performances, created arts and crafts projects and learned about library programs available throughout the year.

The celebration highlighted the importance of keeping children engaged in reading and educational activities during the summer months.

This year's kickoff is expected to feature games, giveaways, food, 3D printing demonstrations and other family-friendly activities as the library launches another season of summer reading.

The Summer Reading Program encourages children, teens and adults to continue reading throughout the summer and participate in library programs and special events.
