Local altruist sets sights on 200 ‘new eyes’

Jessica Carrasquillo, of the Bethpage Federal Credit Union's Elmont branch, is holding an eyeglass drive now until April 20. A student of the CUNY Malave Leadership Academy in New York City, Carrasquillo is working to support people in need of glasses as part of her curriculum.

Carrasquillo said she’s set her personal goal at 200 pairs of eyeglasses, and has currently received close to 50. Eyeglasses can be dropped off at the Bethpage Federal Credit Union, located at 1633 Dutch Broadway in Elmont. All donations collected by the academy will benefit New Eyes for the Needy, which has brought improved vision and hope for a better future to people in the U.S. and worldwide.
