Female residents of Franklin Square and Elmont are eligible to schedule appointments at a mobile mammography van that will be outside local bowling alley Dani’s Strike Zone, at 20 Village Ave. in Elmont, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Oct. 23.

The event, organized by the offices of New York State Assemblywoman Michaelle Solages and Sen. Anna Kaplan along with Nassau University Medical Center and the Cancer Services Program of Nassau County, marks Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Appointments are required. To schedule an appointment, call (516) 599-2972.

In order to schedule an appointment for a mammography, you must be female and 40 years old. You must also have not received a mammogram in the past year, not currently be pregnant or breastfeeding, never have been diagnosed with breast cancer and not have implants or other breast issues.

A prescription is required from your doctor if you have health insurance. Eligible candidates without health insurance will be processed through the Cancer Services Program of New York.

On the day of your appointment, do not wear deodorant, perfume, powders, lotions or creams near the breast-imaging area. In addition, bring photo ID and insurance card, if insured.
