To celebrate the spooky season, Rescuing Families, a nonprofit that provides financial assistance, resources, and home renovations for families facing disabilities and financial hardships, brought back its 5th Annual Halloween Costume Party Bingo at the American Legion, 233 Woodlawn Rd, West Hempstead, NY 11552, from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Oct.16.

The event featured 5 bingo games, 1 Door Prize Entry, 1 Raffle Basket Ticket, and a buffet dinner with drinks. The admission fee was $45. It was inspired by a bingo event six years ago called the Ugly Sweater Party.

“It's such an incredible testament to who we are as an organization and the people who follow us. This event grows and finds more people every year,” co-founder Gina Centauro said via text. “We have people who have been coming since the very first event and tell us that this is their annual event; they put it on the calendar and look forward to it every year! Our community's support is incredible.”

Centauro said that through community collaboration, volunteerism, and advocacy, the organization empowers families to live with greater independence, security, and hope. She added that this event helps spread the word about our mission and share it with our community, especially in Nassau County.

Centauro said funds raised from this event will help a family in Valley Stream with two disabled family members. She said local businesses, including Tulip Catering, A&S Bagels, Cinelli's, Sapienza's, and Croxley Ales, donated food for the event, and others helped by spreading the word about the event.
