Sewanhaka Central High School District’s junior and senior high Mathletes recently competed in the annual District Math Tournament at Sewanhaka High School.

Senior high teams participated in a Nassau County–led competition featuring league problem sets. Each team worked collaboratively to solve 10 questions within 40 minutes. New Hyde Park Memorial High School placed first with a perfect score of 10, followed by Sewanhaka High School in second place and H. Frank Carey High School in third.

Junior high students competed in a two-round event. In the first round, teams represented their respective schools. In the second, students were grouped into mixed teams, allowing them to collaborate with peers from across the district.

Members of the winning mixed team were Khorshed Alam, Prasis Gajurel, Seerat Kaur and Olivia Samaroo of Floral Park Memorial High School; Dan Jablonski of H. Frank Carey High School; Darien Fundo, Jayden Jiang and Aarav Maini of New Hyde Park Memorial High School; and Ayaan Ali of Sewanhaka High School.

“The atmosphere was electric, filled with energy and enthusiasm as students connected with their peers in a friendly yet competitive setting,” District Coordinator of Mathematics Marcella Fini-Jackman said. “Advisers played a crucial role in facilitating the event, providing support, offering pizza before the contest and distributing personalized pencils as a special keepsake. Their dedication made this a memorable, math-filled afternoon.”
