Nassau County opens warming space ahead of freeze warning

 The county’s temporary warming space is open ahead of overnight freezing temperatures expected to hit the region early Tuesday, said Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman.

The National Weather Service has issued a freeze warning from 1 to 9 a.m. for parts of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, including Nassau County. Forecasters said temperatures are expected to fall between 30 and 32 degrees.

“Nassau County is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of our residents during extreme weather conditions,” Blakeman said in a release. “As temperatures drop overnight, I encourage anyone in need to take advantage of our temporary warming space.”

The warming center is  at 1200 Old Country Road in Westbury.

Residents who see someone who may need shelter are encouraged to call the Nassau County Winter Homeless Hotline at 1-866-WARMBED (866-927-6233).
