Five Towns Kiwanis awards scholarships to students

Having a fair amount of fun in Cedarhurst Park

The sun seeped through the clouds and the rain abated for Kulanu Academy’s annual fair at Andrew J. Parise Cedarhurst Park last Sunday. Rides, games, crafts, face painting, petting zoo, raffles and refreshments were all part of the four and a half-hour event.

Lawrence Woodmere Academy held a Holocaust Remembrance Day assembly on May 10 that commemorated the victims and survivors of the systematic killing of 6 million European Jews as well as 7 million other people under the Nazi Germany regime of the 1930s and ’40s.

Breaking ground on a new play area

The Lawrence School District aided by a $125,000 state grant with help from then Assemblyman Todd Kaminsky (D-Long Beach) broke ground on a new playground last month for the elementary school students that now attend the Broadway campus at the middle school.

Cleaning up Hempstead Lake State Park

Lawrence High School students, members of the Town of Hempstead Democratic Club’s environmental caucus and a few others helped to make Hempstead Lake State Park much cleaner as they collected 40 bags of trash for about three hours on April 10.
