An unidentified person was hit by an oncoming train at the Merrick train station this morning. On hand to investigate were MTA and Nassau County police, along with officials from the LIRR.

Updated: 5:15 p.m., Sept. 9, 2011: An eastbound Long Island Rail Road train struck and killed a New Jersey man at the Merrick train station just before 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, according to LIRR spokesman Aaron Donovan. The “Jaws of Life” were used to help rescue a 19-year-old woman who was trapped in her Nissan Altima was traveling east and apparently lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a tree in front of 1159 Broadway in Hewlett last Sunday at 3:10 a.m., according to officials. more
