Five injured in Franklin Square crash after vehicle strikes gas pump

Five people were injured in a two-vehicle crash in Franklin Square early Sunday morning, according to Nassau County police.

Police said Fifth Precinct officers responded to the intersection of Hempstead Turnpike and Herman Boulevard at 3:42 a.m. on June 21. Investigators said a white Nissan traveling westbound on Hempstead Turnpike collided with a green Hyundai that was traveling southbound on Herman Boulevard.

After the collision, the Nissan struck a gas pump at the Exxon station at 1111 Hempstead Turnpike, police said.

Five people suffered injuries in the crash and were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment and evaluation. The extent of their injuries was not immediately available.

The investigation is ongoing.
