Franklin Square Kiwanis Club hosted Trunk or Treat

To celebrate this year’s spooky season, Franklin Square’s Kiwanis Club hosted its annual Trunk or Treat event at Rath Park, Naple Avenue Parking Lot, Franklin Square, NY 11010, on Sunday, Oct. 25, 2026, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

The event featured candy collection, decorated car trunks, community costumes, and special appearances by local groups such as A&A Veterinary Hospital. Jenny Amarain, president of the Franklin Square Kiwanis Club, said the club started the event during COVID so children could celebrate Halloween outdoors, and community interest made it an annual event.

Six years later, the event grew bigger than before. Amarain said around 100 to 200 children from the community attended in costumes. A character greeted them, visited decorated volunteer car trunks for candy, and played at bounce houses.

After seeking volunteers on social media, Amarain said about 25 families reached out and volunteered, and many kept reaching out until the last moment. Amarain thanked the families and hoped the community, especially the children, would have a fun time at the event.

“It's a great community. It just gives such a great community feeling. That's why we keep doing it every year because it just brings us the pleasure of seeing the kids so happy, and it just brings the community together,” Amarain said. “You have community families helping us out, and we try to do as much as we can.”
