Gun blunder leads to man's arrest in Franklin Square

A Brooklyn man was arrested in Franklin Square on Sept. 30 at 11:55 p.m., after police found he had been carrying a loaded .357 revolver.

According to Nassau County 5th Precinct detectives, before the arrest, plain clothes officers saw and stopped three black men who were acting suspiciously, and matched an earlier description given by a uniformed officer near the Pathmark Shopping Center at 595 Franklin Ave. in Franklin Square. Two of the men, one a 20-year-old and the other a 22-year-old, were stopped and questioned.

Yevaughn Roye, 18, of Brooklyn, however, was walking behind with the two subjects when he reached into his waistband and began running on Franklin Avenue into the Pathmark parking lot. An officer chased after Roye and noticed that he dropped something in the lot. A second officer recovered the item — a loaded Black .357 revolver — and Roye was placed under arrest.

Roye has been charged with second-degree criminal possession of a firearm, and was arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Oct. 1.
