The Long Island Arts Council at Freeport and the Village of Freeport collaborated to organize a unique outdoor summer concert in the Village Hall courtyard. The event served as an opportunity to strengthen community bonds and appreciate a diverse selection of music and performers.
Concert attendees, some who planned on coming and others who decided to stop while walking or driving by the courtyard on North Grove Street on Sunday, June 14, were treated to three sets of New York and Long Island-based performers; indie rock artist Reevjar, jazz and funk band Musically Inclined and world folk ensemble Folkestra.
Lois Howes, a member of the Long Island Arts Council at Freeport, who helped organize the event, mentioned that the concert was intended to be both a tribute to the 250th Anniversary of the U.S. and an appreciation of the modern and talented local community.
“The concert…brings together different types of music, representing the different kinds of people that live in this country, and should be working and doing things together,” Howes said.
The concert was entirely free, with attendees only asked to bring their own chairs due to the courtyard having limited pre-existing seating. The live music was a welcomed accompaniment to the warm weekend weather in Freeport, leading to dozens gradually filling up the inviting courtyard space.
