While learning directly from professionals in the community, students in the Freeport Public Schools had the opportunity to explore myriad careers at the New Visions and Caroline G. Atkinson School Career Day events.

At New Visions, students took part in interactive presentations and demonstrations that connected classroom learning with future career opportunities. Guests shared insights into their career paths, day-to-day responsibilities and the skills needed to succeed in their industries. Among featured presenters were members of the Nassau County Police Department Mounted Horses and K-9 Unit, law enforcement officers, a dentist, nurse, vice president of sales, hairdresser, nutritionist, restaurant owner, professional sports representative, yoga instructor and stretch therapist.

“Career Day helps students connect classroom learning to real-world opportunities and encourages them to dream big, ask questions and begin thinking about the many paths available to them in the future,” event organizer and lead reading specialist Lisa Drury Cruz said.

Sixth grade students at Caroline G. Atkinson School gathered in the gymnasium to meet professionals from a wide range of industries, including law enforcement, graphic design, STEM and engineering, fitness and wellness, museum curation, professional athletics and music.

“Our Sixth Grade Career Day is designed to expose students to a variety of career paths and inspire them to begin thinking about their future goals,” organizer and school counselor Angelina Iaccino said. “Through this event, students have the opportunity to meet professionals from many diverse fields and leaders about the skills and education needed for success.”

Both events reflected the district’s commitment to offering meaningful opportunities that encourage students to explore their interests and prepare for future success.
