A woman from Florida has been arrested for an alleged larceny that involved the Cerebral Palsy Association of Nassau County, which is located in Roosevelt, earlier this year. The accused, Nicole Ramirez, has been charged with second degree grand larceny by the Nassau County Police Department.
Nassau's Electronics Squad and Forgery Section reported that the alleged incident involving Ramirez, 28, occurred on May 5 at noon when she called the Cerebral Palsy Association of Nassau County pretending to be a representative of the Manufacturers and Traders Trust Company, commonly known as M&T Bank. Detectives say that Ramirez requested and received bank account information from someone at the association.
On May 13, the association was contacted by the bank and told that there were 21 attempted wire transfers totaling $1,029,132.40, of which $50,314 were successfully transferred out of their business account.
After months of investigating, Ramirez, whose home address is in Orlando, Florida, surrendered herself to the First Precinct of the Nassau County Police Department for arrest processing.
The Cerebral Palsy Association of Nassau County, which is headquartered on Washington Avenue in Roosevelt, runs various medical and developmental programs for close to 1,500 people from 2 to 21 years old. The organization has assisted disabled individuals for nearly 80 years.
Ramirez was arraigned on Monday, Oct. 5, at the First District Court in Hempstead. If convicted, she faces up to 15 years in prison under New York state law.
