On Friday afternoon, five Long Island fire departments put out a Freeport fire that occurred on the first floor of a house at 147 Lena Avenue. No injuries have been reported.
Under Chief Michael Gordon, the Freeport Fire Department put out the fire at the 2 and a half story house after receiving the alarm call at 7:55 p.m. Baldwin, North Merrick, Roosevelt, Hempstead and Rockville Centre fire departments provided mutual aid. A total of 50 firefighters were at the scene.
According to Andrew Schmitt Jr., Nassau County assistant chief fire marshal, the building has been deemed uninhabitable. It is unknown how many occupants were living there.
The fire is being investigated by the Nassau County Fire Marshal's Office and the Nassau County Police Department's Arson/Bomb Squad.
