Freeport has received approximately 13 inches of snow during a blizzard that started on Feb. 22 and continued into today, Feb. 23. A message from Mayor Robert Kennedy and the Freeport Emergency Management Office advised residents to stay off the roads and be prepared to plow walkways. Snow is expected to continue to fall Monday afternoon.

Freeport Public Schools also announced, "Due to inclement weather, all Freeport Schools will be closed on Feb. 23," including all afternoon and evening activities.

The Roosevelt Union Free School District has also announced that all in-person instruction will be closed across all school facilities on Monday.

The National Weather Service has forecasted about 15 to 20 inches of snow with winds up to 30 miles an hour and gusts up to 60 miles an hour.

Village officials are requesting that all residents keep their cars off the roads as much as possible so that snow removal vehicles can plow snow from curb to curb without trapping cars.

Sanitation has also been suspended for Monday and is expected to continue on Tuesday.

Residents are also to be warned not to blow onto the streets or in front of fire hydrants.

The Nassau Inter-County Express (NICE) Bus has resumed its full daily schedule as of Tuesday, including ParaTransit. Representatives of the NICE service still advise that delays are still possible as road conditions change.

A Coastal Flood warning has been issued for Freeport by the National Weather Service from 10 p.m. on Sunday until 4 a.m. Monday. Please call the Village of Freeport Police Department at 516-377-0700 or 911 for emergencies.
