As summer festivities wind down, the school year begins and fall approaches, September brings ceremonies and community events to Sea Cliff. The village and local organizations will bring residents together throughout the month for reflection and connection. The village will hold a Sept. 11 remembrance ceremony, Love Your Neighbor Project will host a potluck and the Sea Cliff Civic Association will welcome new neighbors to Sea Cliff. Here are three things to know
1. Recognizing the 25th anniversary of Sept. 11
The Village of Sea Cliff holds annually a Sept. 11 remembrance ceremony at the 9/11 Memorial Clock in front of the Stenson Memorial Library.
The clock is dedicated to those who died in the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001. The village, through the Sea Cliff Circle newsletter, invites the community to reflect as 25 years have passed "yet the loss of Sept. 11 remains deely felt - in the lives taken, the families forever changed, and the courage of those who answered unimaginable danger with sefless service."
Remembering that spirit of unity, compassion and shared purpose is also part of honoring those lost.
Join the community at 8:46 a.m. on Sept. 11, at the 9/11 Memorial Clock in front of the Sea Cliff Children’s Library.
Residents are invited for a brief gathering to honor those who died and the first responders and others who answered the call.
2. Grab a seat at the Longest Table
Sea Cliff nonprofit Love Your Neighbor Project will host its second Longest Table event. The “musical chairs potluck” will take place in Roslyn Park on Sept. 19 at 4 p.m.
The event, where the community will come together to share an outdoor meal, is $25 per person and open to those 21 and older.
Love Your Neighbor Project offers scholarships and grants, contributes to other nonprofits, and helps community members in need.
It hosts events throughout the year to connect the community, and money raised during fundraisers is put toward scholarships and grants and financial contributions to other organizations and neighbors in need.
3. Welcoming new neighbors to the village
The Sea Cliff Civic Association’s annual “Welcome to Sea Cliff” party is set for Sept. 27. Each year, the civic association hosts the event to welcome new neighbors to the village.
Residents and new families in Sea Cliff are invited to the welcome gathering, which includes remarks from Mayor Elena Villafane, village trustees and civic association President Ann DiPietro.
The Sea Cliff Civic Association holds community events throughout the year with celebrations, concerts and theatrical performances for all seasons.
