Throughout Sea Cliff and Glen Head, local organizations strengthen the fabric of North Shore life through service, generosity and civic engagement. Whether protecting the environment, bringing neighbors together through special events, awarding scholarships or supporting those in need, these groups demonstrate how volunteerism and giving back continue to make a lasting impact.
Protecting our waters with the Coalition to Save Hempstead Harbor
With its roots in Sea Cliff, the Coalition to Save Hempstead Harbor works to identify and eliminate environmental threats in and around Hempstead Harbor. The organization was founded in 1986, and its goal is to increase public interest in restoring the harbor promoting sustainable practices to aid its protection and resiliency.
A major project the coalition undertakes each year is its oyster gardening initiative. It was introduced in 2022 to help restore local waters by raising oysters in cages across three locations in the harbor. A fourth location has since been added. Eastern Oysters are raised during the project, which takes place from July through September. This species filters water, improving its quality, and can provide habitats and protection for other marine species.
The coalition also hosts an annual cleanup of Scudders Pond, monitors local horseshoe crab populations and engages with the community’s students to get them involved in environmental protection efforts.
Spreading the love with Love Your Neighbor Project
This Sea Cliff-based nonprofit aims to bring people together, promote connection efforts by community members and help neighbors in need. It holds events and fundraisers throughout the year to bolster community connection and make it possible to support residents monetarily.
Porchfest is a major fundraiser for Love Your Neighbor Project. Held each May, local bands and artists perform on porches throughout Sea Cliff. In 2026, the event raised more than $30,000 to support the nonprofit’s work.
Pride Stride is held each June in celebration of Pride Month. It includes a parade and after-party, bringing the community together and promoting diversity and acceptance. 2026 marked the third Pride Stride, which has become more Sea Cliff-focused since it first launched in 2024.
Love Your Neighbor Project contributes to GoFundMe fundraisers that have been opened to support neighbors who may be struggling. The organization also offers scholarships to graduating seniors at North Shore High School, awarding sums of money to three students who have made an impact in their community. One grant is also awarded to a club within the North Shore School District making a humanitarian or environmental difference.
