Sea Cliff’s Guardian Angel Family Store will close its doors after 20 years. Founded by Glen Head resident and former North Shore School District early-intervention therapist Barbara Costello, the non-profit has served as an outreach resource for families dealing with financial hardship, helping to meet their basic needs with food, clothing and children’s supplies. The organization has also supported victims of domestic abuse and families facing eviction.
An Aug. 4 Facebook post announcing the store’s closure read “After 20 wonderful years of serving our community, it is with heavy hearts that we announce the Guardian Angel Family Store will be closing its doors. We are deeply grateful to everyone who has volunteered, donated and shopped with us over the years.”
Clothing, toys and children’s books sold at the store were donated by North Shore community members and businesses. Goods were sold at affordable prices to support struggling families in the community.
Costello also runs the Angel Gardens Center, an educational enrichment program in Comayagua, Honduras.
The store is holding a closing sale this week. It ran Monday and Wednesday and will continue Friday, ending Saturday. The sale’s hours are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days. Women’s clothing, shoes and handbags are priced between $1 and $5.
