Postal update provided in Glenwood Landing

Posted

Glenwood Landing resident Jeremy Barth provided on Facebook an update on the quest for securing home mail delivery in the hamlet. Barth began a petition in August for residents to urge the United States Postal Service to reevaluate the community for home delivery. Amy Gibbs, USPS spokeswoman for Long Island and Queens, wrote to the Herald in September that the postal service does not change its method of mail delivery to a community once it has been established.

In Barth’s Facebook post on Sept. 28, he wrote that property records are being requested from the Nassau County Department of Assessment and the Receivers of Taxes from the Town of Oyster Bay and the Town of North Hempstead. While most of Glenwood Landing in located in the Town of Oyster Bay, a portion of the southwest corner is in the Town of North Hempstead.

Barth wrote in the post that he believes the post office could be using an incomplete count of Glenwood Landing households, adding that some physically located in Glenwood Landing use ZIP code 11545, typically used in Glen Head, rather than 11547.

From the records being requested, Barth wrote that advocates are asking for the number of residential properties in each town’s portion of the hamlet, the actual number of dwelling units, properties in Glenwood Landing that use Glen Head or another postal designation and the official tax-map of district boundaries used to identify the community.

Barth continued to write that the numbers will then be submitted to the postal service and Postmaster General David Steiner along with the petition, which has 436 signatures as of press time. Barth added that U.S. Rep. Tom Suozzi, Sen. Charles Schumer and Sen. Kristen Gillibrand will be copied on the submission.
