A 64-year-old pedestrian was killed Wednesday morning after being struck by a pickup truck while crossing Peninsula Boulevard in Hempstead, police said.
Michael DeMedina, of Hempstead, was crossing the busy thoroughfare northbound at around 8 a.m. when he was hit by a 2011 Toyota Tundra, according to Nassau County police. The driver, a 49-year-old man, was heading south and making a left onto South Franklin Street when the collision occurred.
DeMedina was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver remained on site after the crash and no other injuries were reported, according to detectives with the Homicide Squad. The investigation is ongoing.
