The tale of the tenacious raccoon has finally reached its climax. For weeks, the furry troublemaker, nicknamed “Ricky the raccoon” by community members, had been wreaking havoc on West Waukena avenue in Oceanside leaving residents on edge. From overturned trashcans to late-night disturbances, the raccoon had become the talk of the neighborhood, as local moms feared leaving their kids outdoors. Determined to restore peace, community residents alerted the local police to the menace.

“Thanks to our Nassau police for capturing Ricky, I feel at peace having my boy out with his friends knowing that he’s safe to ride his bike around,” said Oceanside resident Matthew Levine.

County police embarked on a mission to apprehend the elusive raccoon. The chase wasn’t without its challenges, but the police successfully apprehended the furry fugitive, that had plagued the block. Police will bring the raccoon to a sanctuary.
