Polar Bear Splash – Feb. 14
Winter doesn’t slow Long Beach down. Each February, thousands gather for the Polar Bear Splash, a chilly but exhilarating tradition that doubles as the community’s largest fundraiser for Make-A-Wish. Participants dash into the Atlantic in a show of support and bravery, while spectators bundle up along the shore. Since its late-1990s beginnings, the event has grown into a major winter highlight.
Arts & Crafts Boardwalk Festival – July 11 and 12
The iconic boardwalk transforms into a bustling marketplace during the annual Arts & Crafts Festival on July 11 and 12, a tradition spanning more than four decades. The event features rows of vendors offering handmade goods, artwork, apparel and specialty foods. With ocean views on one side and local creativity on the other, it’s a signature Long Beach experience.
30th Annual Michelle O’Neill Volleyball Tournament – Sept. 12
One of the city’s most beloved sporting traditions, the Michelle O’Neill Volleyball Tournament returns each September, drawing thousands to the beach near Laurelton Boulevard. Now approaching three decades, the event blends spirited competition with a meaningful mission, raising funds to support children with cancer and special needs. Dozens of teams take to the sand for a full day of play, while spectators line the courts to cheer them on.
King and Queen of the Beach Surf Contest – Sept. 13
Surf culture takes center stage at this youth-focused competition, where Long Beach’s next generation of wave riders competes for top honors. Open to surfers 17 and under, the annual contest showcases skill, determination and a deep connection to the ocean. Held each September, it’s a fitting tribute to a city where surfing is part of everyday life.
