Man convicted of 2004 murder in Island Park found dead in East Meadow jail

A man convicted of murder on Tuesday was found dead in his jail cell later that night at the Nassau County Correctional Center in East Meadow.
According to the Nassau County Homicide Squad, Herve Jeannot, 29, of Deer Park, was found in his cell at about 11:45 p.m. on Tuesday. He was immediately transported to the Nassau University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 12:30 a.m. Investigators said the cause of death was likely a suicide.
On Tuesday, a jury convicted Jeannot of murder and weapons charges in connection with the 2004 murder of a Long Beach man in Island Park. He faced up to life in prison and was scheduled for sentencing on Dec. 10.
