Three swimmers rescued from Long Beach rip current Thursday

Three swimmers were pulled from the water in Long Beach Thursday night after being caught in a rip current at the Lincoln Boulevard beach.

The call came in just before 7 p.m., so lifeguards were off duty.

Two of the swimmers were taken to a nearby hospital, but there were no serious injuries.

Earlier this month, Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman came to Nickerson Beach to announce the month of July’s new designation in the county — Rip Current Awareness Month.
