Swastikas, anti-semitic remarks found written on seats

The anti-Semitic writing found on a Long Beach High School bus this week was the product of an argument between two students, according to Schools Superintendent David Weiss

“It involved two kids, one kid doing [the name calling,]” he said Thursday afternoon.

Nassau County police were called in to investigate after anti-Semitic remarks and swastikas were found written in ink and marker on a school bus. Police said that the incident occurred sometime between Monday morning and Tuesday afternoon.

Weiss said that under the state’s Dignity for All Students Act, school officials are required to report instances of bullying to local police, but that discipline is usually handled internally.

“We were doing our due diligence,” said Weiss said of reporting the incident to the police.

“I’m horrified, personally,” said high school PTSA Co-President Cindy Christou, who learned about the incident on Wednesday morning. “We have zero tolerance. These children will be held accountable for what they have done.”
